Scholarships at Newcastle University

Build on your sporting success

We award sports scholarships and funding every year to students who:

• have achieved highly in sports.

• want to build on their success and represent the University.

Eligibility

You must be:

• a current student in any year of study, or

• an undergraduate or postgraduate applicant with a place at Newcastle University

You must:

• have achieved senior or age group representative honours at national and/or regional level in the last 12 months, and/or

• be a member of the National Governing Body’s (NGB) performance squads, or equivalent

You must commit to:

• improving in your sport.

• representing the University in British Universities Colleges Sport (BUCS) events, where applicable.

Sports scholarships

To be eligible for a scholarship, you must compete in one of the following Performance Clubs:

• American Football

• Badminton

• Basketball

• Fencing

• Football

• Golf

• Hockey

• Lacrosse

• Netball

• Rowing

• Rugby League

• Rugby Union

• Squash

• Table Tennis

• Tennis

• Volleyball

• Waterpolo

To be a Sports Scholar, you must:

• be a student at Newcastle University.

• represent the University.

• compete in British Universities Colleges Sport (BUCS) events, where applicable.

Scholarship package

Criteria

Regional/National/International standard within the last 12 months. Students should be part of a National Governing Body Performance Squad or equivalent.

Funding

Up to £5000

Services received

• Individual and/or small group Strength and Conditioning sessions.

• Access to medical services, including physiotherapy and sports massage.

• Professional coaching.

• Mentoring/lifestyle support.

• Athlete workshop programme covering topics such as sports physiology, nutrition, psychology, screenings, injury prevention and management, and lifestyle management.

• Sport science support.

• Access to training facilities.

• Performance video analysis.

Value of award

£6,500 towards tuition fees.

Overview

Newcastle University is pleased to offer a partial scholarship to applicants from Norway who apply to commence full-time undergraduate degrees.

Eligibility criteria

To be considered for the scholarship applicants must be:

• domiciled in Norway.

• assessed as international for fee purposes.

• hold an offer for an eligible undergraduate degree programme at the University’s Newcastle city centre campus for the 2024/25 academic year.

Newcastle University offers 16 partial Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarships. They will assist EU students to study an undergraduate degree or postgraduate taught master’s degree.

Value of award

Up to £6,000 tuition fee awards.

Number of awards

8 undergraduate and 8 postgraduate awards.

Eligibility criteria

For this award, we will consider applicants who:

• are domiciled in an EU member state (students domiciled in EEA member states that are not part of the EU, are not eligible). EU students domiciled in the UK will also be considered.

• have been offered a place to study on an eligible undergraduate degree programme at the University’s Newcastle city centre campus for the 2024/25 academic year.

• are assessed as international for tuition fee purposes.

• already have or expect to receive the equivalent of an upper second class UK honours degree or above for postgraduate awards and a minimum of AAB at A level or equivalent for undergraduate awards.

We will assess eligible candidates according to evidence of:

• academic ability.

• evidence of commitment to studies.

• quality of application.

We are pleased to offer 200 partial Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarships. They will assist international students to study an undergraduate degree or postgraduate Master’s degree.

Value of award

£4,000 tuition fee awards.

Number of awards

200 in total (undergraduate and postgraduate courses).

Eligibility criteria

To be considered for awards applicants must:

• be domiciled in one of the following countries: India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand or Vietnam.

• have been offered a place to study on an eligible undergraduate or Master’s degree course at the University’s Newcastle city centre campus for the 2024/25 academic year.

• be assessed as international for fee purposes.

Value of award

25% of the international fee.

Start date and duration

September 2024 for the duration of your course.

Overview

Newcastle University is pleased to offer a number of partial EU Scholarships to assist students domiciled in the EU to study an undergraduate degree.

Eligibility criteria

To be considered for awards applicants must:

• be domiciled in an EU member state (students domiciled in EEA member states that are not part of the EU, are not eligible). EU students domiciled in the UK will also be considered.

• have been offered a place to study on an eligible undergraduate degree programme at the University’s Newcastle city centre campus for the 2024/25 academic year.

• have been assessed as international for tuition fee purposes.

There are 11 up to 50% tuition fee scholarships and two 100% tuition fee scholarships.

Value of award

50% or 100% of tuition fees.

Application closing date

• 14th March 2024 - USA.

• 25th April 2024 – India, Kenya, Malaysia, South Africa, Tanzania, Turkey, Ukraine.

50% scholarships

Applicants for the up to 50% scholarships applicants must:

• be domiciled in one of one of the following countries: India, Kenya, Malaysia, South Africa, Tanzania, Turkey, Ukraine, USA.

• be assessed as international for fee purposes:

• hold an offer for an eligible full-time undergraduate degree programme at the University’s Newcastle city centre campus for the 2024/25 academic year.

• already have or expect to receive a minimum of ABB at A level or equivalent.

• evidence of academic ability.

• evidence of commitment to studies.

• quality of application.

100% scholarships

Applicants for the 100% scholarships applicants must:

• be domiciled in one the following countries: India, Ukraine, USA.

• be assessed as international for fee purposes.

• hold an offer for an eligible full-time undergraduate degree programme at the University’s Newcastle city centre campus for the 2024/25 academic year.

• already have or expect to receive a minimum of ABB at A level or equivalent.
